Job description- ICE special agent jobs involve crime prevention in many domains, including money laundering, narcotics trafficking, child exploitation, counter terrorism, illegal arms and technology export, human trafficking, smuggling, and financial crimes. Special agents conduct major operations to foil terrorists, gangs and other illegal networks by disrupting the transfer of funds and resources, interdicting materials and weapons, and apprehending key individuals.
Job requirements
- Be under 37 years of age unless applying for veteran’s preference
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Resided in the U.S. for the past three years or served in the federal government or military overseas
- Pass a thorough background security check
- Pass a medical examination
- Pass a drug test
- Serve a minimum of three years
- Willingness to relocate
- Other requirements might include- Drug testing, mobility, Selective service, probationary period, Immigration reform and control act and financial disclosure.
Job duties:
- Maintain knowledge about existing, developing and potential threats to national security
- Obtain operational knowledge about nuclear, chemical and biological weapons
- Investigate the crimes and actions of suspected criminals originating abroad
- Disrupt the activities of gangs, terrorists, human traffickers, drug smugglers and financial criminals
- Pursue and capture fugitives and suspected threats
- Investigate the dealings of U.S. companies or professionals that may be selling U.S. weapons or proprietary technology
- Infiltrate and gain intelligence on criminal or terrorist networks operating within and outside of the country
- Investigate organizations or persons providing material, financial or informational support to transnational criminals, foreign powers or organizations
- Detect and eliminate operations involving immigration fraud, child exploitation, or customs trade fraud
- Gather intelligence on the proliferation of restricted weapons technology
- Collaborate with intelligence, defense and diplomatic agencies about growing threats and operations

LocationAs an ICE Special Agent, you may work in a variety of settings and situations. One of your main duties may be the enforcement of immigration laws and regulations, particularly as a new agent. You may work at the border, take in those who are in the country illegally, and even work in deportation.
However, as you move up the ranks, you may move into more criminal investigation activities. Special agents often investigate and collect evidence on crimes that take place in multiple countries and affect American citizens. You may investigate national security threats, illegal arms export, identity fraud, terrorism, and child exploitation. It's essential to be flexible and able to take commands from your superiors. Though you may have special training in one part of criminal investigation, you'll likely have to take on whatever duties your supervisors assign to you. You should also be ready to work long hours or atypical shifts. If you are assigned to another office, you may be away from your family for months at a time. Furthermore, ICE Special Agents are on call 24 hours per day, seven days per week. To help keep the country and its people safe, you must be ready to answer the call of duty at any time. |
How it applies: ICE is responsible for enforcing federal laws both criminal and civil. In class we learned about those laws in chapter 3 and in chapter 4 we learned about the different types of law and in this case ICE fall under administrative law. Another thing that can be related to this is the 2 functions of criminal law the duty to protect and punish, the legal function of the law that maintains social order by protecting citizens from criminal harm the other function is maintain and teach which is the social function of the law, expressing public morality and teaching societal boundaries
